Abandoning Commercial Property
Is there a legal way to abandon my commercial property? What are legal ramifications of abandoning?
Question:]
I have a commercial property in Benton Harbor, Michigan that I was leasing for 15 years. During the last four years I have not been able to lease or sell. The property is mortgage free.
Is there a legal way to abandon the property? What are legal ramifications of abandoning?
Answer:
If you don’t pay the real estate taxes for 2 years the state will sell the property at a tax sale. There are very few ramifications. If you don’t want the property, this should get rid of it for you.
